6 Steps to Create Your 6- or 7-Figure Online Course Business

Six figures…seven figures? Hitting these marks has become the Holy Grail of online course sales. While success isn’t all about creating revenue, it is an essential part of funding the big work that you are here to do in the world.

How do YOU create a 6- or 7-figure online course?

Beyond my experience in creating and launching multi-6 and multi-7 figure courses in my own business, I have helped many of our Create 6-Figure Courses members hit these milestones. Let’s talk about the steps you need to move through when creating and launching your online course.

What You Don’t Need to Create a 6-Figure Online Course

To create a 6- or 7-figure online course, you need to narrow your audience and narrow the focus of your course to stand out. We will walk through how to do this in the following steps.

Before we go any further, let’s talk about what you don’t need in order to create your 6 or 7-Figure Online Course Business:

  • A huge list
  • A bestseller
  • Features in big magazines
  • Podcasts, blogs, or fancy websites

You simply need to focus on what you know and determine how you can help others with that knowledge.

6 Steps to Create Your 6 or 7-Figure Online Course Business

There are fundamental steps you need to take in developing your online course to set it up for a big impact.

If your goal is to create an online course that generates six figures or multi-six figures (maybe even seven figures) helping people get results, here’s the process we move through to create your online course.

Step 1: Identify Your “Sweet Spot”

Your sweet spot is the place where your skills, your experience, your talent, and your passion come together to solve a problem that your audience will invest in solving.

What is the common thread that weaves through your life and work experiences that make you unique? Starting here will help you identify your point of difference before you begin to create your course.

Even when there are many other experts already offering courses in your area, you can stand out by focusing on your unique point of difference.

For example, a health coach looked at her skills, passions, and experience to narrow her audience. Instead of focusing on weight loss or healthy eating, she took her experience of health coaching, 25 years experience competing as an equestrian, plus her experience with her daughter who has Type 1 diabetes.

She now positions her work as: “Nutrition and health coaching to improve performance for young athletes with diabetes or chronic illness.”

Once you are clear on your point of difference, you can identify who you can help and the problems you can solve for them.

Step 2: Choose the Right Audience

The right audience has a problem they want to solve and they are willing to invest energy to solve it.

Identifying your Sweet Spot can help you identify the right audience for your online course before you create it. I talk more about how to get clear on this in my latest book,  The Expert Called YOU.

You might think that you need to focus on business or helping people make money to create a 6- or 7-figure online course. That’s just not the case.

In our Create 6-Figure Courses community, we have experts in all areas making a big impact with their online courses including:

  • Artists
  • Educators
  • Psychologists
  • Health, Business, and Life Coaches
  • Hairdressers
  • Speakers
  • Graphic Designers
  • Photographers
  • Medical Professionals
  • Financial Professionals
  • Writers
  • Productivity Experts
  • Nutritionists
  • Real Estate Experts
  • Energy Healers
  • Foreign Language Teachers

The key here is to look at what your skill set is and then choose the audience that you want to serve.

Step 3: Focus on the Transformation

Your online course helps the person that you want to serve move from where they are to where they want to be. They are investing to work with you to create a transformation.

Getting clear on your transformation is how you create a really powerful, stand out online course. Work backwards from the results you will help people create and your course will stand out.

Recently, eight of our clients were featured in INC. What made all of these course wildly successful is the focus on the transformation for their audience.

Step 4:  Structure Your Offers the Right Way

Your online course is an entry point for people who want to work with you. You can easily add on deeper level offers to serve the students who want to work more closely with you.

For example, some of your students will be interested in adding the following support to their online course experience with you:

  • Small group coaching
  • One-to-one coaching
  • Retreats
  • Workshops
  • Individual critique of their work
  • Customized plans
  • Done-for-them implementation

These are just a few ways you can add on deeper support as a next level offer in your business.

Adding the right sequence of offers behind your online course can easily double the revenue from your course without creating more content. Click To Tweet

That is a powerful way that you can create results and more revenue with just one course.

Step 5:  Price for the Value You Deliver

Most experts undervalue the impact of their course. This translates into pricing your online course too low.

Your pricing should be based on the value you deliver. Think about how the value you create adds value to your audience.

Your pricing affects everything in your business. Be careful that you don’t underprice your course. I talk more about pricing in this post.

Step 6: Automate and Scale

To be able to serve more people, it’s important to automate so that you can scale your growth.

You can automate virtually everything in your online course launch and delivery including:

  • The ads promoting your course that help your ideal people find you
  • Your pre-recorded webinar that creates an experience of you teaching and  leads your prospects in your online course sales page
  • Your follow-up emails that close the sale
  • Your payment being deposited into your account
  • Your welcome emails guiding your students into your course
  • Your content being sent out to all your students week after week

You can literally run your entire business on auto-pilot. The time to think about automating is when you are creating your first online course.

When you think about how you will automate from the beginning, you can create a business that delivers the freedom most of us signed up for when we became entrepreneurs.

Having the right systems in place enables you to create a bigger impact through your work.
